Singh who was born in Nanbol went to the Manipur public highschool in impal and obtained an MBBS degree from Regional institute of medical sciences there. He completed two year sports medicine diploma from baba faria institute of health science in patiala.
He joined army medical carps in feb 2003 and had served at high altitude location and counter insurgency Zones before being selected on merit for deputation. In indian mission in kabul which he joined in kabul on feb-13-2003.
